Mercury be Damned
This retrograde was rough. I had the flu then once I got my immune system bone broth so it could fight, it found sinus infection I hadn't known about before! Also had this horrid experience trying to get to the neurologist where I missed two buses and hurt myself, almost being late. Then the car... oh the car:
I noticed my shifting was sticking for a month or so. It started randomly stalling too. One day it started making a rattle followed by this hiss that sounded like a freed wheel when I hit the clutch. I went to this place I've gone for years, my family has gone there over 10 years. The guy swore it was my water pump only. So he fixes the water pump and thermostat for 651$. I feel like it was a bit high for the shop and no way does the water pump make the shifting symptoms or the wheel noise, but repair price lower than most places so fine. Then two days later I'm driving to the new endo in heavy traffic. It is doing the same damned thing as I took it in for, sans the noise. Then I smell the sickening smell of clutch. Try to limp it to a safe place and it blows before we can get to one, so we are stranded at a turn on a canyon road. We could have been killed! The transmission locks into first gear so we can't even roll it off the side of the road into this house's lookout. The car isn't moving and morning traffic is bad. LAPD shows up as I'm on the phone with the tow guy trying to give him directions. One of the cops takes over and tells him where we're at then both direct traffic. Thanks be to them! The tow guy was awesome company for hubby and I while we were getting home. I rescheduled my endo, they were awesome for not charging me. I texted my parents and asked if I could get a ride to my doc appt, they were quick to get the shop to rectify the misrepair. As I understood it at 12p, we were getting the repair for free, a tow truck was coming right away, and I was going to get a lift to my car when it was done. Took 3 hrs and my mom yelling at him for a tow to get the car from my place. Next day? Calls 10m to close, I tell him "the bus is going to take an hour to be there," he went "ok see you tomorrow." No ride offer, no price talks...
The next day comes, my step mom picks me up because now shyte is just ridiculous. We get there and "that will be 1400$." Now is when everyone goes off. 1. He made it out like we didn't owe anything. 2. He never quoted a price. 3. Didn't check my main complaint the original owner would have causing my near death instead of preemptively repairing the clutch. 4. Price gouged the hell out of me (charged the price of a transmission for a clutch). 5. Didn't follow through with the tow or ride. 6. Constantly talking down to women (me when I initially brought it in, parents when they were rectifying my break down)... The original owner got into the fray and got him to refund the original repair to bring down the clutch to 750$. By the end the manager, new owner, was walking away with his head down and tail tucked.
Now I have to find a new mechanic.
