Balancing Drive

I mentioned to a friend before leaving for a drive that it is very balancing spiritually for me. I become one with everything while I'm driving recklessly in the canyons. Here are all the ways it's truly balancing, refer to my previous blog about balance.

I start at home, pull out and drive towards Topanga Canyon. On the way I'll stop off for preparations: fuel, food, drinks. I turn onto Topanga Canyon and drive straight through to the PCH. While I'm up there the world melts away, it's just me, my car and the road. The emotional distress, anxiety, work stress... none of it matters while I'm up there. By the time I hit the ocean I am a blank slate. I sit upon the quartz lined boulders while looking out at the ocean. I watch the eerie stillness of the ocean at night, the tides, and waves. I become entranced by it all, drinking in all of the elements while there. After a time I'll drive home and during the return trip I'm rejuvenated and ready to face the world again.

The trip has all six elements with a destructive act:

• Dark: night
• Light: moon, hell you can add my headlights
• Water: ocean
• Air: mountain and ocean air
• Earth: mountain, forest
• Fire: firestorms, people with wood burning stoves, sun rise/set, engine combustion
• Creation: all life forms doing their life cycles
• Destruction: my car's exhaust, if I drive over a living critter

I use all six senses:

• Sight: I see the beauty and mystery of the territory I drive through
• Taste: I can taste the fire/smoke, fuel and ocean in the air
• Smell: I can smell smoke, ocean, trees, fuel, brakes
• Hear: I hear the air, ocean, my car, the music
• Touch: I feel the car, the force, temperature of the air
• Spiritual: I become one with my car, I feel the ground through the tires. I can feel my own mortality in each dangerous turn.

As you can tell, my trip has each element in it, including a destructive act... I don't get the same reset if I am up there without the car. I have to have the driving as well for it to work properly.
